Frequently Asked Questions

How can I visit the school?

We welcome visitors who are interested in our work! The best time to visit is during the academic year (April-March, excluding major holidays). Please contact us at least one month in advance to arrange your visit. We can help with local accommodation recommendations and transportation advice.

What percentage of donations goes directly to programs?

We're proud that 92% of all donations go directly to our educational programs and student support. The remaining 8% covers essential administrative costs and fundraising expenses. Our annual reports provide detailed financial information and are available upon request.

Can I send supplies or materials to the school?

While we appreciate the thought, shipping items to Nepal can be costly and complicated with customs. We generally recommend financial donations that allow us to purchase supplies locally, supporting the local economy and ensuring items are culturally appropriate. If you have specific items you'd like to donate, please contact us to discuss the best approach.

How do you select students for the school?

Our school serves children from the most marginalized communities in Solukhumbu. We prioritize children from families living below the poverty line, those from historically disadvantaged castes, girls at risk of early marriage, and children who would otherwise have no access to education. Our selection process involves home visits, family interviews, and coordination with local community leaders to identify those most in need.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Yes, the Sherpa Education Foundation is a registered non-profit organization in Nepal (Reg. No: XXXXXX) and donations are tax-deductible in Nepal. For international donors, we have fiscal sponsorship arrangements that may allow for tax deductions in your country. Please contact us for specific information relevant to your location.
