Progress Update: New Computer Lab Construction Begins!

Thanks to generous donors, construction has begun on our new computer lab that will serve 250+ students. This milestone project will introduce digital literacy and technology skills to our curriculum.

After years of planning and fundraising, we’re thrilled to announce that construction of our first-ever computer lab has officially begun! The groundbreaking ceremony took place last week, attended by students, teachers, community members, and representatives from TechForward Solutions, the corporate partner whose generous donation made this project possible.

The new facility will feature:

• 20 energy-efficient laptop computers
• Solar power system for reliable electricity
• Satellite internet connection
• Projector and screen for group instruction
• Basic programming and educational software

“This computer lab represents a transformative step for our school,” explains Principal Pemba Sherpa. “In today’s world, digital literacy is as fundamental as reading and writing. Our students have been eager to learn technology skills, but until now, we’ve had no resources to offer them.”

The lab will serve all 250+ students, with scheduled class time for each grade level. The curriculum will include basic computer skills, internet research, word processing, spreadsheets, and an introduction to programming concepts. For older students, the lab will also support career exploration and college application processes.

Michael Chen, CEO of TechForward Solutions, shared his company’s motivation for supporting the project: “We believe that technology access should not be limited by geography or economic circumstances. These students deserve the same opportunities as children in urban areas, and we’re proud to help bridge that digital divide.”

Construction is expected to take approximately three months, with the lab becoming operational by the start of the new academic year in April. In addition to the physical facility, TechForward is sending two IT specialists to train our teachers in computer instruction and basic maintenance.

Grade 11 student Pasang Lhamu expressed the excitement felt by many students: “I’ve only seen computers in books and on rare visits to Kathmandu. Having a computer lab at our school will open so many doors for us. I’m especially interested in learning programming—maybe I can create apps that help our community!”
